BASIC RULES

  • 10 V 10

  • Max. 10 people (7 males max.) on the field.

  • 6 players (2 female minimum) to start game.

  • NO ump fees.

  • Bats and balls provided at ALL locations- First Come, First Serve.
  • Bats must be ASA, USSA or NSA certified.
  • Gloves are not provided. Please bring your own!
  • No more than 3 males can bat in a row.
    • Females can bat multiple times within the batting order to have 3-1 ratio but MUST bat in order in regards to other females
  • AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH GAME both teams MUST submit a written list of their batting order to the scorekeeper
  • All players will start each at bat with a 1-1 (1 ball and 1 strike) count
  • NO bunting – bunts are a foul ball (at the ref’s discretion)
  • 2 fouls is an out
  • Pitches should be thrown underhand, in an arched style, between 6 ft. (min) to 16 ft. (max) measured from the ground
  • If the ball is between the 6 ft. to 16 ft. range and hits home plate or the strike mat, then it is a strike
  • 65 foot base paths on all fields
  • ALL pitches MUST be thrown underhand

BATTING

  • ALL batters WILL START WITH A 1-1 COUNT (1 BALL AND 1 STRIKE)
  • A batter with two strikes is allowed one foul ball. Two fouls with two strikes and the batter is out.
  • A foul ball above the batter's head may be caught for an out
  • Sliding is ALLOWED
    • Any slide that results in excessive contact with the defensive player will result in the runner being called out (at the ref’s discretion)
  • No more than 3 males can bat in a row
  • Females can bat multiple times within the batting order to have 3-1 ratio but MUST bat in order in regards to other females
    • ***Men CANNOT bat twice in the lineup to achieve the ratio if a team plays with more women than men
  • If a male batter walks, followed by a female batter with 2 outs in an inning, the female batter will have the option to hit or walk.

Umps will enforce this rule upon request; however, they will not be responsible for notifying the batter in each walk situation.  If the bases are already loaded when the male walks, the female can not take a walk.

INNINGS

  • 7 innings in a game
    • All games are 7 innings or 70 minutes (warm up time included); the last inning will start 10 - 15 minutes to the hour.  The ump will enforce this rule and will make the call at the top of the final inning.  Note:  Due to differing circumstances in each game, some games will finish short on an hour in length, while others might run over the hour mark.  Please respect your ump's call in this matter.  The umpire must keep all games on time in fairness to teams playing later hours and due to facility permit restrictions.

  • Mercy Rule – lessens the chance of having blowouts early in the games (boring for everyone)
    • ONLY happens if there is a 10 run lead or more after 4 full innings
    • Max. 5 runs can be scored per inning once Mercy Rule has been called (EXCEPT the last inning – no limit)
    • Games CAN end in a tie during the regular season
  • Tie Breaker Rule (Only applies to playoffs and championship games)
    • An extra inning will be played in the event of a tie game
    • If the game is still tied after that extra inning then the team that reached the furthest base wins

BASE RUNNING:

  • Batters must run to the right side base at first, if a play is being attempted at first base.  Any batter who does not run to the side base will be called out for interference with the first baseman whether contact is made or not.

  • First basemen must allow the runner to reach the base and not interfere with the runner should she or he round first base toward second.  Interference will result in one additional base.

  • NO stealing

    • Runner CANNOT leave his/her base until the pitched ball is hit
  • NO pick off attempts
  • Ball is DEAD on a pitch once it hits the ground (or a player)
  • Overthrow rule:  If the ball is deemed out of play or unplayable, ALL runners are awarded 1 base from the base LAST possessed upon release of the throw
  • If the ball is OVERTHROWN and REMAINS in play, the game continues
  • All runners must run to the "safety plate" (secondary base located diagonally to the right of home plate) if attempting a play at Home.  Once a runner crosses the "commit line" (a line drawn half way between third base and home plate) it becomes a forced play (the runner may not go back to third base and must make an attempt at home).  If the defense tags home plate BEFORE the batter reaches the safety plate, the runner is out. Treat home plate like first base. (This rule is set up to protect the safety of our players and to avoid unnecessary collisions at home plate)

FORFEITS

  • Don't forfeit. You are very important, so please be on time. Everyone would like a chance to play.
  • Teams without the minimum players will forfeit after 15 minutes from their designated start time.
  • In the event of a forfeit, the team who forfeited will receive a "-1" and the opposing team will receive a "0" in the score book.
  • If a team forfeits, the opposing team may request an unregulated "play for fun" game.  Scores will not count.

**All teams make the playoffs at the end of the season (unless you forfeit 2x)**
